Beautiful blue skies and sunshine greeted competitors to Curlew Park for the 2025 Associated Independent Colleges Cross Country Championships. After a very wet autumn that included a very wet weekend preceding the carnival, the Curlew Park course needed to be modified to accommodate the conditions. The competitors got to compete in traditional Cross Country conditions that included water crossings and areas of mud. These conditions definitely didn’t deter the athletes who all competed to the best of their ability.
The competition was fierce throughout the day and the closeness of that competition was clearly evident in the Primary School competition. Iona claimed the first division of the day with a victory in the Year 5 competition with Marist College Ashgrove a close second. These positions were reversed in the Year 6 division which left the Primary Aggregate Shield to be split between Iona and Marist College Ashgrove.
In the secondary competition, Marist College Ashgrove were out to defend the ‘Aggregate Shield’ they claimed in 2024. They started the competition very well with victories in the 12 Years, 13 years and 14 Years divisions. Padua College were able to break the sequence of Marist College Ashgrove wins with a win in the 15 Years competition. St Peters won the closest division of the day, by a solitary point in the 16 Years Age Group. Marist College Ashgrove rounded out a wonderful overall team performance with victory in the Open division and by also claiming the Secondary Aggregate Shield. Iona finished 2nd overall in the secondary with Padua College in 3rd place.

The AIC would like to thank host Colleges – St Patrick’s and St Edmund’s. Particular thanks must go to the St Patrick’s College Curlew Park Ground staff and Director of Sport- Mr Jim Potts for their tireless work in ensuring the event would go ahead.
