Marist Claim 3 in a Row in Secondary Cross Country Championship; Primary Championship Shared…Again!

After a season heavily disrupted by wet weather, the 2026 AIC Cross Country Championships were rewarded with perfect conditions at Curlew Park. All three lead-up meets had been cancelled due to rain, making the championship day a welcome return to competition for athletes across the AIC.

Curlew Park once again proved an outstanding venue for the event. In a remarkable turnaround, much of the course had been underwater just seven days earlier, yet by championship day it was presented in exceptional condition thanks to the efforts of the ground staff and event organisers.

Shared Primary Championship

For the second consecutive year, Iona College and Marist College Ashgrove shared the Primary Aggregate Championship Shield.

  • Marist secured the Year 5 trophy.

  • Iona claimed the Year 6 trophy.

  • Both schools finished second in the division they did not win, resulting in another shared aggregate title.

Marist Extend Secondary Dominance

In the Secondary competition, Marist College Ashgrove continued an extraordinary run of success, winning its third consecutive AIC Secondary Championship and its ninth title in the past ten years.

The championship was built on strong performances across multiple age groups, with Marist winning the:

  • 15 Years Division

  • 16 Years Division

  • Open Division

Iona College and Padua College finished equal second overall, with Padua recording the highest secondary championship finish in the college’s AIC history.

St Laurence’s College placed fourth overall but showed impressive depth for the future by winning the 12 Years and 14 Years age-group trophies.
