AIC Term 2 Sport is underway with the commencement of the Chess, Football and Rugby competitions seasons. This term across the three sports, close to 7000 thousand students will represent their Colleges. This year for the first time in AIC history, St Edmund’s will compete with primary teams in all three sports. AIC guest college, Ambrose Treacy, will again participate in rugby and Football fixtures.
Chess will be a hotly contested competition with St Peters out to defend both the First IV Premiership and the overall Chess Aggregate they claimed in 2024. An exciting trial initiative for the AIC Chess competition this year is the use of AIC First IV Chess results to support the calculation of Queensland Junior Chess Rankings. If this years trial is successful, it is hoped that more divisions will be able to be included in this calculation in future years.
Football has again grown in participation numbers in 2025. Over 260 teams will participate this term from Year 5 to Opens. Marist College Ashgrove will be out to defend the First XI premiership won in 2024. Both St Laurence’s and Marist College Ashgrove try to defend their overall Football Aggregate title from strong challenges from a number of schools.
Rugby Union continues to have great participation in the Association with over 170 teams participating in 2025. This year Padua will look to build on the undefeated premiership they won in the First XV competition in 2024. Marist College Ashgrove will be out to defend the Rugby Aggregate shield. It will be a strong competition across all divisions this year with some of the best Rugby players in Queensland representing their Colleges each weekend.
The AIC will again be livestreaming all of the First XV Rugby and First XI Football games during the season. Those who cannot make it to the grounds can watch all the fixtures on ‘AIC TV’. This can be access through (AIC Live Streaming).
Good luck to all teams for an exciting season ahead!
