The 2025 AIC Golf Championships had a record number of entries, with teams representing all 8 AIC Member Colleges and AIC Guest – Ambrose Treacy. This year’s championships also hosted a record number of primary students. Keperra Country Golf was again the venue for the Championships and with the championships played under beautiful blue skies.
The major competitions competed for each year are the Balharry Shield, awarded to the Secondary Team Nett Champions and the Team Gross Shield awarded to the team with the best Gross score for the day. Competition was close in both competitions with some incredible golf being played and students scoring well in both the Gross and Nett competitions. After 18 holes of wonderful competition St Laurence’s were able to claim the Balharry Shield (Net Champions) with a team score of 291. Marist College Ashgrove finished runners up with a score of 297. The Gross Shield was an even tighter contest with Iona looking to defend the title they won in 2024. With some challenging pin placements, the course was able to increase the difficulty in scoring low for all teams. After some great competition, Iona (329) claimed the Gross Shield by only 4 shots over runners up Villanova (333).
Running in conjunction with the team competitions are individual competitions. In an incredible Nett Competition, final results came down to a countback after both Lachlan Balfour (Padua) and Matthew Christenson (Marist College Ashgrove) both recorded a nett score of 69. Lachlan claimed the championship pennant by the narrowest of margins on countback. The gross secondary championship is always tight and showcases some of the best student golfers in Queensland. This year’s competition came down to a solitary shot, with Matthys Visser (St Patrick’s-77) claiming a one-shot victory over Henry Wright (Villanova-78).
There was a significant increase in number of primary players participating. The primary competition was only recently added to the event and gives an opportunity for students in Years 5 and 6 to showcase their golfing skills. For the first time, a primary ‘gross’ champion claimed an AIC pennant. Congratulations to Joseph Unnasch (Villanova-83) who claimed the title by a single stroke to Parker Honke (Padua-84). In the primary nett competition, Parker Honke (Padua) and Eli Emery (Iona) shared first place with Valentino Rotolone (Villanova) runner-up.
The AIC would like to again thank the Keperra Country golf Club for their support in hosting the event.
