Lauries, Villa and Ashgrove take out the Term 1 Shields

St Laurences have taken out ‘best on ground’ for AFL for 2021 while Villa still have a hold on the Cricket Aggregate – albeit a small one from a surprise contender. We have seen a resurgence from Ashgrove in Volleyball this year, they took out best Volleyball school.

St Laurences just sneaked in by 2 points over Villanova for the AFL crown, they placed in the top two in all divisions. Their Open team was the standout of the comp for this year.

With 4 schools on top in the last few weeks of the 1st XI season, the premiership was anyone’s! But some upsets saw Villanova take it out the title and win the aggregate for the third consecutive year . Villa won 4 team premierships along the way. Iona has emerged on the cricket scene due to some depth in their younger teams, they only went down by 2 points to Villa in the aggregate. It was great to see a cricket season without whole round washouts!

Ashgrove also took out 4 volleyball team wins for the season and took titles off some strong volleyball schools to win overall by 6 points. Lauries and Iona rounding out the top three.

Overall Term 1 was one of the closest competitions we have seen in these team sports for many years, well done to all schools. Bring on Term 2!
