Wow! What a second term of AIC sport!! All of our aggregate results were dependant on the very last round of competition. Villanova won the overall Chess title by 2 points; Iona won the Rugby by 0.5 point and Iona also won the Football title by 1 point. Such a fantastic achievement for a college to win both football codes but to make history at the same time is special. It is the first time in AIC history that Marist Ashgrove has not finished as the top Rugby school, and to stay at the top for two decades is a special achievement in itself. A wonderful effort by the coordinators, players and coaches at Iona. Congratulations!
Padua took out the Open Chess, Iona won the 1st XI Football and the 1st XV premiership was deservedly shared between Iona, Ashgrove and St Patrick’s. Both the Open Football and Rugby was the closest contest we have had in years.
On behalf of the association, thank you and well done to all players and staff involved in Term 2 sport. Once again, our Friday night Chess and the Saturday footy fixtures were played with heart and collegial spirit – something we pride ourselves with amongst the AIC Colleges. Thank you to our Football Referee Coordinator and the Qld Rugby Referees association for providing our officials.
