Huge weekend of AIC Sport ahead- esports, Touch and Water Polo Carnivals

This weekend will see the AIC College’s compete in three different sports- esports, Touch and Water Polo. The hosting of these carnivals further highlights the AIC’s commitment to offering students a wide variety of opportunities to participate in sport and represent their schools.

One of the fastest growing sports in the world is esports. This year will mark the 2nd year that the AIC as hosted the esports competition with the event to be again held at Villanova College. Teams of 5 will be competing against each other on the “Minecraft: Capture the Flag” platform. Just like ‘traditional’ team sports, the best esports teams will have great communication, excellent strategy and will be able to perform the skills in the game under pressure. This Saturday, the atmosphere inside the esports venue will be intense.

2023 will be the third year that St Laurence’s has hosted the AIC Invitational Touch Carnival at Runcorn. The number of teams competing has grown every year with 42 teams competing this year. On Saturday, teams will compete in Primary, Year 7, Year 8/9 and Year 10/11 divisions played over 10 fields. The standard of AIC touch is incredibly high, with AIC schools competing at the various statewide carnivals achieving very good results.

This Sunday will see Marist College Ashgrove host the annual Water Polo Invitational Carnival. Teams will contest three divisions- Year 7, Year 8/9 and Year 10/11. The carnival allows the large number of talented Water Polo players that attend AIC Colleges the opportunity to demonstrate their incredible skills. AIC schools have had a number of Water Polo players go on to represent Australia including AIC Hall of Fame inductee Pietro Figlioli (Marist College Ashgrove).  The carnival also introduces a large number of boys to this Olympic sport in a fun, community environment.

The Association would like to thank Villanova (esports), St Laurence’s (Touch) and Marist College Ashgrove (Water Polo) for hosting these events. Thank you to all the staff at each College who will coach teams this weekend.
