Track and Field Championships – Day 1 Review

A huge Day 1 of AIC Track and Field action completed. A windy day made conditions challenging for the athletes, but the conditions did not prevent some incredible performances. Marist College Ashgrove leads the way in both the Primary and Secondary Aggregate Championships.

On Day 1, two AIC records were broken. Congratulations to Ashton Sampson-Wood (St Laurence’s) who set a new record in the 13 Years High Jump with a jump of 1.84m. This broke the previous record by an incredible 8cm! Congratulations Ashton!

In a race that just might be one of the best 1500m races ever run at the AIC Championships, 4 boys pushed each other to the extreme in the 16 Years 1500m event – with all 4 boys breaking the previous record. Congratulations to Harry Luschwitz (2nd- Padua), Zac Milligan (3rd-Marist College Ashgrove) & Bailey Horvath (4th- Villanova) for all breaking the previous record. Special congratulations to the new record holder and winner of the event- Oscar McKean (St Laurence’s). The new 16 Years AIC 1500m record is 4:01.21.
