St Peter’s Lutheran College emerged from one of the best clashes in AIC First IV tennis history to outlast Padua College’s rising stars at Indooroopilly last Saturday.
The clash had to be split by the number of games won after St Peter’s and Padua tied on the same amount of match wins in a contest that lived up to its expectation.
Last year, St Peter’s surged to its fifth consecutive AIC First IV title when it overcame a Padua team featuring four Year 10 players.
This year, Padua’s team had developed into a serious test for St Peter’s and the result was close, with St Peter’s winning on games 63-49.
The result has already built excitement for 2020 when all four Padua players will return to the school, eager as ever to play St Peter’s again.
St Laurence’s College also remains unbeaten after three rounds following its 8-0 win over Marist College Ashgrove.
St Laurence’s has won each of its rounds this year by the same score, setting up an entertaining clash with Padua College when play resumes in round four after this weekend’s bye.
In other third round matches, St Patrick’s College achieved its first win for the season with a close 5–3 result against St Edmund’s College.
In the other third round match, Iona College defeated Villanova College 8-0.
When the competition resumes in round four, St Peter’s will travel to Villanova, Iona will host St Patrick’s and St Edmund’s will host Marist Ashgrove.
