A remarkable 2026 AIC Basketball season has concluded with St Laurence’s College celebrating a historic double, claiming both the First V Premiership and the prestigious AIC Basketball Aggregate Shield. In one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory, thrilling contests, narrow margins and outstanding performances across all divisions highlighted the strength and depth of basketball throughout the Association. From Laurie’s ending a 15-year First V premiership and Aggregate drought to emerging primary school talent showcasing the bright future of the game, the 2026 season delivered memorable moments at every level and reinforced the continued growth of AIC Basketball.

ST LAURENCE’S – AGGREGATE CHAMPIONS

St Laurence’s claimed their first Basketball Aggregate Shield since 2011 with strong performances across their whole program. This wonderful result has been building with the South Brisbane school finishing runners up in the aggregate competition over the last two years. The Aggregate Shield will be in the trophy cabinet at St Laurence’s for the third time in AIC history following the school’s aggregate successes in 2003 and 2011.

CHAMPIONS AT LAST: LAURIES CLAIM FIRST V PREMIERSHIP

 St Laurence’s secured the 1^st V Premiership with a win over St Peters in round 7 ending their 15-year premiership drought.

In what was a highly competitive and thrilling season, just one win separated the top four teams on the First V ladder. With the premiership race remaining wide open throughout the campaign, every result carried significant weight as teams battled week after week for a place at the top. The narrow margin between the leading contenders highlights the depth and quality of the competition, making the eventual premiership triumph all the more impressive.

A three-team tie between St Edmund’s College, Marist College Ashgrove and Villanova College occurred for Runners up in the First V Competition with all three schools finishing just one loss behind the Premiers.

On Friday afternoons, AIC Basketball proudly showcased its Primary Competition, highlighting the exceptional talent emerging through our colleges. Ambrose Treacy College again participated in the primary school divisions. The future of the competition looks incredibly bright, with several teams completing the season undefeated in their respective divisions. Special congratulations to St Laurence’s 6A, Villanova 6B, 6C and 6D, and Iona 5A, 5B, 5C and 5D on their outstanding achievements.

The AIC community extends its sincere thanks to all coaches, referees, bench officials, and supporters whose dedication and commitment helped make the 2026 season such a memorable one.
