This Thursday will see the official commencement of the AIC Track and Field season with the first AIC Championship Warm Up Meet being held at the State Athletics Facility (SAF) at Mt Gravatt. The “Warm Up” meets are excellent preparation for the AIC Track and Field Championships to be held on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th October.
Marist College Ashgrove will be striving to achieve the incredible feat of securing 10 successive AIC Secondary Track and Field Championships in 2024. The Marist College Ashgrove team will face stiff competition from the 7 other member Colleges and AIC ‘Guest’ College- Ambrose Treacy College who will again compete in the AIC Championships this year. In the primary competition, Marist College Ashgrove will also look to defend the Primary Aggregate Shield they won last year.
Participation in Track and Field compliments sporting participation in other sports, building on the key components of fitness of Speed, Aerobic Endurance, Strength and Power. When interviewed earlier this year, the 5 AIC school graduates who all played this year for the Queensland Reds, all highlighted Track and Field participation as an important part of their school sporting journey.
This year there will be four “Warm Up” meets (listed below) where students will aim to gain selection in their respective College teams for the AIC Championships. Each meet is more importantly an opportunity for students to improve their personal best efforts from previous carnivals.
Warm Up Meets
Thursday 22nd August- State Athletics Facility (SAF)- Mt Gravatt
Wednesday 28th August- State Athletics Facility (SAF)- Mt Gravatt
Thursday 5th September- State Athletics Facility (SAF)- Mt Gravatt
Wednesday 11th September- State Athletics Facility (SAF)- Mt Gravatt
Each week, the program of events for each meet will be published on the AIC website in the days prior to the meet. It is important that students and parents still check their own school’s information available through their normal school channel for important information.
If not yet participating in Track and Field training, all students at member colleges and Ambrose Treacy are encouraged to see their sports departments on how they can get involved over the next 6 weeks in the lead up to the AIC Championships.
Good luck to all students and all Colleges for the 2024 Track and Field Season!
