It was the closest carnival we have had in years…..only 4 points separated the top 4 schools. The day was split into two sessions with the primary and 12 and 13 years running in the morning and the remainder of the age groups in the afternoon. We thank our schools, coaches and parents for their cooperation. The final aggregate scores are posted below.
Villa and Padua won the primary, Yr 5 and 6 respectively, but the shield couldn’t be split between Villa and Ashgrove, both finishing on 13 points. Iona and Padua split third by one point then St Laurences. There was some great racing on a beautiful day at Curlew Park. Villa and Eddies won the 12 years and whilst Villa went onto win the 15yrs and St Peters did their best by also winning two age groups, it wasn’t enough to get over the top of Ashgrove in the end. Even the uncharacteristic 7th place of Ashgrove in the 12yrs could not stop them from taking the Aggregate Shield once again. They prove year after year that they run well where it’s needed and their 13’s and 16’s won divisions in style. One of the highlights of the day was the 16yrs race with Thomas Prole (Ash) taking out his 5th consecutive AIC title. Remiss to mention Iona, who, at the latter stages of the carnival was just in front, pinning their hopes on the senior races, wasn’t to be and their top spot vanished to 4th with St Peters and Villa performing better in those age groups.
2021 will be a cracker if the likes of Iona, St Peters and Villa can move up the ranks in some age groups. Ashgrove will always be hard to beat, they are to be congratulated on another great effort!
