The 2026 AIC Volleyball season once again showcased the exceptional depth of talent and competitiveness across one of the strongest schoolboy volleyball competitions in Australia. With close to 170 teams competing from Years 7–12 across the eight AIC Member Colleges, the season delivered high-quality matches, outstanding skill, and spirited competition each week. In a remarkable achievement, Iona College claimed the Champions School Aggregate and First VI premiership ‘double’ for the third year in a row!
Aggregate Champions
Iona College continued their remarkable run in AIC Volleyball, claiming the 2026 Aggregate Shield in what proved to be a tightly contested race. In a season-long battle, Iona narrowly secured the title by just two points ahead of St Laurence’s College, highlighting the intensity and quality of competition across all divisions.
Both Colleges demonstrated exceptional depth and consistency throughout the season, with strong performances across multiple year levels keeping the aggregate race undecided until the final rounds. Iona’s ability to perform consistently across the competition ultimately proved the difference in securing the shield.
The Aggregate title remains one of the most challenging achievements in AIC sport, requiring sustained excellence across all teams. Iona’s narrow victory is a testament to their program’s strength, while also recognising the outstanding challenge presented by St Laurence’s throughout the 2026 season. St Edmund’s College finished 3rd in the Aggregate Competition.
First VI Premiership
At the premier level, Iona College’s First VI Volleyball team delivered another outstanding campaign, finishing the 2026 season undefeated to secure back-to-back-to-back AIC First VI Premierships.
To remain undefeated in the top division is a significant achievement; to do so across multiple seasons highlights a period of sustained excellence rarely seen in such a competitive environment. The team displayed a high level of skill, composure, and cohesion throughout the season, consistently performing under pressure and setting the standard for First VI volleyball. Again, St Laurence’s finished runners up in this competition after pushing Iona in a four-set match in Round 6 which was effectively a ‘grand final’ for the competition.
Year Level Competitions
The 2026 season again highlighted the incredible depth of AIC Volleyball, with strong and closely contested competitions across all divisions—from the First VI through to the Year 7 grades. Many matches were tightly fought, with teams demonstrating significant growth in skill, teamwork, and resilience over the course of the season.
Premiership success was shared across multiple Colleges, reflecting the balance and strength of the competition and ensuring an exciting season from start to finish.
