Innovation and Growth Across the Competition
The 2026 season was highlighted by a number of key initiatives aimed at enhancing the cricketing experience across the AIC competition. The introduction of pink balls across all divisions marked a significant step forward, with a long-term vision of enabling a transition to coloured playing kits. This was strongly embraced, with the majority of First XI teams competing in coloured clothing throughout the season.

Further advancements included the expansion of PlayHQ digital scoring to more teams, increasing accessibility and engagement for players, coaches, and supporters. Modified playing rules were also trialled in selected divisions, supporting player development and ensuring a positive and inclusive playing environment.

AIC First XI Showcase Match
A standout addition to the 2026 season was the introduction of the AIC First XI Showcase match. Featuring selected players from across the AIC First XI competition, the game brought together some of the best schoolboy cricketers in Queensland.

In a memorable contest that highlighted the depth of talent within the competition, the match concluded in a thrilling tie — a fitting result for a showcase of such quality and competitiveness.

This initiative significantly enhanced the reach of the competition, allowing families, friends, and the wider community to engage with AIC cricket like never before.
