Marist College Ashgrove are the 2017 Track and Field Champions, along with Iona College who won the primary aggregate. The 19th annual championships were held this week at the State Athletics Facility and it was a wonderful display of athletics. Well done to all 8 schools!
Both Ashgrove and Iona led (senior and primary respectively) from Day 1 and maintained their leads right throughout the two day carnival. Iona were too good in the Years 5 and 6 events with Ashgrove runners up and Villanova closing the gap from last year in placing third. Iona won both the Year 5 and Year 6 age groups.
Ashgrove never looked like losing their stronghold on the senior championships, winning the carnival by over 100 points. The battle was in the minor placings as the much improved St Peters provided the runners up, Iona, some heavy competition on the track.
It was great the see the senior age aggregates shared amongst a number of schools – 12yrs (Iona), 13 & 14yrs (Ashgrove), 15yrs (St Edmunds), 16yrs (St Laurences) and St Peters won the Opens.
